The new company I’m at now sent me an email from an email address that was HR@companyName.careers saying I was accepted for the position. They gave me paperwork to fill out and sign to accept the position
I fill out the paperwork and send it back to them and it goes through… then a few days later I go back to the email to say something else and I get this…?
Then today I got a check from the company In the mail to setup my home office, and it’s signed by someone I’ve never met before or heard of…?
What…..

Anybody still up and wanna chat??

Yeah probably had this for the majority of my adult life, surviving on 0-5h of sleep.
I completely cut out any caffeine as this was making my insomnia worse.
But the only thing that’ll help will be addressing your anxiety and getting rid of that, I’m afraid. I tried everything else under the sun..
I 100% agree on addressing the anxiety….. figuring out another approach to your situation or coming up with a plan on how to address a mental health concern can be the key to success…..
Yes, I even thought I was going into perimenopause. My GP said if I sleep better on holidays, it’s the work stress. Magnesium and Kalms Night before bedtime help as does fresh air and exercise. Hope you sleep better soon!
I used to take magnesium glycinate and L Theanine to sleep, and they kinda worked, but not enough during high stress periods, so I switched to marijuana sleep gummies or melatonin.
OP, have you also considered journaling before bed? Emma Watson writes something she's proud of accomplishing, something she did well, and something she helped someone out with everyday, and I've done the same before sleeping after my therapist recommended it to me. It takes 5 minutes and helps ease some anxiety. Rooting for you! :)
Yikes. This sleep deprivation driven by work anxiety is a lot more harmful to your long term health than you realize.
If you cannot switch the pyramid or whatever the circumstances causing the anxiety in the next two weeks, you might wanna consider transition. Its not worth it
I am seriously considering, but the job market sucks :(
Those hours are called the wicked hours, usually because those are when the evil spirits are out at work. You should pray to God about anything and everything. I even bet that you would get very sleepy, I don't know what it is about praying to God at night that puts many of us to sound sleep. May God bless you and give you rest.
Cortisol - it's an evil thing. When you wake up, gently tell yourself that you can't do anything right now as it's time for sleep. Dump your thoughts onto a notebook if they're persistent. Avoid screens and do some box breathing.
Listen to Catholic Gregorian Chants .. It gives you peace and calm your anxiety ( even if you are not a believer in God). I had some anxiety attacks and could not sleep mainly due to work, so I fall asleep listening to them. You should try 😊
This happens to me sometimes when a project is going through a tough stage. When that starts happening, I try to make sure I devote some time at the end of the workday (however late that is) to focus some dedicated attention to the issues that are waking me up to make sure I'm doing everything in my power to address. For me that helps, even if it takes a few days.
Also, I agree with the other comments about cutting out caffeine in the evening. For me, that doesn't cause me problems going to sleep, but can cause me to wake up around 4 am and not be able to get back to sleep.
Yes. A few things to try
- sleep yoga
- remove blue light (use special bulbs) and put screen in night mode 2 hours before bed
- eat at least 3 hours before bed time
- don’t just stay in bed at 3am. Get a glass of water and get back in bed as if this was the beginning of the night
- melatonin with extended release
- see a sleep doctor for a sleep study. There may be an underlying condition.
Wishing you better sleep.
All very helpful tips ! Thanks very much !
So I used to take NyQuil regularly. Not proud but it helped
Job less stressful now which is the best medicine
I take magnesium at bed and put magnesium lotion on feet for bed. Makes a lot of difference.
Ah ill try the magnesium lotion on feet as well. Thanks very much for the tip!
Great you were able to find a less stressful job, that’s the dream
Currently dealing with this; it's brutal and I'm sorry you are also having this struggle.
Honestly the only thing that works for me is spontaneous meditation. There's a great channel on YouTube called "Great Meditations," when I wake up at 3-4 I'll pick a 20-30 minute session to perform while lying down. Sometimes it works to get me back to sleep, sometimes it just slows things down enough until I wake up. Some folks like the meditation apps but for me I need variety and cycling through 20+ free recordings helps me from getting complacent.
Also talk to your Dr. Sleep meds are a big, sometimes mentally difficult, step to take, but it can give you the space to process the underlying issue because prolonged sleep deprivation makes all change so much harder.
Get a new job!
The only thing that helped for me was reading the Bible and praying tbh. Connecting with something greater than yourself and recognizing most things are out of your control is quite comforting
Yes, I once experienced work related stress, insomnia, hypervigilance...PTSD. I quit the job that was causing it and went to work for a former employer where I never experienced that.
I experience that a lot on Sundays. What I try to do is read a book 1-2h before going to bed so I can switch off work - it doesn’t always work, but it did improve my sleep quality a bit.
For weekdays I’m usually exhausted from work so I don’t have a lot of trouble sleeping unless I work late (e.g., working till 1a, 2a). Then I’m still wide awake by the time I go to bed. Again, what I try to do is switch off work by 9, 10p tops so I can get at least 7h in.
Yes disconnecting from work 2 hours before bed and no screens helps a lot, but I currently don’t have the luxury of doing that unfortunately :( Hope it gets better for you
Really sorry to hear this, friend! I deal with this a lot, and during times when I absolutely need to sleep, I take a small dose of melatonin or marijuana sleep gummies. Therapy and working out have also helped alleviate my anxiety. Happy to chat more if you'd like.
Xanax. Then I got a medical card and switched to gummies nightly.
Had it bad for years. My inabilitt to manage well my anxiety, then panic, led me to struggling to fall asleep, then stay asleep. What finally helped was three things: working out with weights hard, some days angry, even though I had friends in the gym who would help me relax. Then, getting sun early in the day, trying to exhaust myself mentally and physically. And deep, slow, box breathing at night as I lied down.
I will give the weights a try. Thanks kind stranger!
Yes! What I have found to work is a good bedtime routine (read before bed, calm music, then white noise). If I cannot sleep, or wake up in the middle of the night, I have found Calm's sleep meditations to be very helpful in getting me out of my head and back to sleep.
The most life changing thing I’ve ever done is stumble upon buteyko breathing and Patrick McKeown. Just YouTube him and really embrace the breathing exercises for anxiety. It feels counter intuitive at first but if you read the science (which he explains) it makes total sense and it’s the only thing that has ever calmed down my brain at night and allowed me to sleep through the night.
Yes, all work stress related. I know this because when I took a few days off, I slept beautifully. You have to address the work stresses, it may mean getting out of consulting.
Is the stress work competition? Or what do you think it’s from?
No clear scope, fire drills coming out of absolutely nowhere on an almost daily basis, client that expects us to work on weekends, unrelenting fake urgency
I could go on and on
Yes I have. It’s a sign to start looking for another job, and or restructure your life.
