“Boomerang” is one term I’ve heard for this - it’s not uncommon to go back.
I’ve heard this term too. I once left a job and came back less than 6 months later. A coworker I liked said she placed a “boomerang spell” on me before I left… turns out she was right! Haha
I actually have. I left Allstate, went to another firm, and then went back to Allstate. I didn't leave Allstate because I didn't like it, I left for more money and I came back for more money haha. Sometimes it is good to go back.

There is nothing wrong to go back and you just assess it as a new opportunity but with familiar culture
I work for a local government agency so your mileage may vary but we’ve had a few people come back and be very happy. But if you left for a reason, does that reason still exist? Is the money truly worth putting up with whatever it is that made you leave? It often is not.
I’ve gone back to previous firms. I think it’s pretty normal. It’s a little awkward going back to a place you used to work. But after a while, things settled down and it feels normal again.
I’ve done it twice! It all comes down to the reason why you left the first time and whether that reason still exists. :)
For clarity that might help if similar to you. The first time I left a job and came back the reason I left was a very specific single toxic boss situation. I left, they managed to get themselves promptly fired for something unrelated, ha karma, so I came skipping back into a promoted version of the prior job.
My second time I left a job because the growth opportunity that I wanted wasn’t available at the time. Since then, that firm has grown in size over the years so the opportunity I had wanted before finally existed (4-5 years later) so I was thrilled to return to that job.
All that to say: it a a good reminder why you should try not to ever burn any bridges when you leave a job whenever possible, no matter the reason for your leave. You never know what opportunity might come up years, decades down the road that may inspire you to boomerang.
