I stayed at my first firm for 9 years due to a great partner mentor who had great clients. Everything else about the firm (hours, pay, culture etc) screamed for me to leave. After having a child in the heart to the pandemic, I knew I deserved more. I lateralled to a firm that was more family friendly. I did regret not doing it sooner but I try to keep my focus forward facing as there is nothing I can do to change the past. Each year I take a hard look at where I am and whether I still feel I have the opportunities for growth. If im stagnating, I start popping my head up for new opportunities

I know I’ve stayed too long and now feel like I can’t get a job anywhere else. Other jobs similar to mine want experience that I don’t have currently.

Overall just under 7 (2+ as admin and 4+ as paralegal)
I stayed too long. But still ended up moving in-house. It was the right job for that season of my life. So I regret the pay I left on the table, but I also had the flexibility I needed. I was very comfortable with the work and my team too so it wasn’t awful.
