It's totally possible to negotiate such things so long as there is a legitimate reason.
Sometimes we can't pay you more for a billion accounting reasons. Sometimes we can't bonus you for the same reasons.
But we CAN give you titles and perks like this cause it's an agency expenditure and has tax ramifications that benefit the shop.
In some of the leaner years (last five), I couldn't give big raises so I would figure out things like parking, health club fees, airline tickets, etc, so as to retain talent.
Untaxable expenditure for us, real money in their pockets for them.
my new agency has agreed to pay for the therapy I’ll surely need for managing their dumpster fire of a situation
I used to live around the corner from my agency, and my offer package included a paid parking spot. Everyone parked in an uncovered lot across the street. My building had gated underground parking available to residents. I don’t remember what the difference in monthly costs were, but I got the agency to agree to pay for my safer monthly parking at home. Not bad for SF!

Sounds like something from the 80s or 90s?
If you're relocating it's definitely within bounds to ask them to pay off the remainder of your lease.
Um, why?
Wtf
I got the remainder of my lease paid for
Havas 1: because everything is a negotiation. If you’re going to lose money relocating, and they’ll pay for it, why would you not try?
SC OP, my advice is to negotiate a flat relocation package, make sure you can use it on the things you need, then pay for the specifics off that. My experience is that you aren’t taxed if you pay for it all upfront and are then reimbursed.
Ah, relocation. Was thinking too narrow, thanks for clarifying.
@cd3 for real??
@cd2 which agency?
But whyyyyyyyy? Like, what’s the argument for asking your agency to pay your bills beyond the paycheck they provide?
may be relocating across the country to a city where a car is no longer needed. and a huge financial benefit of moving to said city is not having a car. i, however, am tied to another 1.5 years on a car lease. my thought is that if i can negotiate them paying off the remainder of the lease, i would take a lower salary because the financial benefit of not having a car far outweighs the lesser amount of salary. i’m moving from a very expensive city to a less expensive city, so even if i make a decent amount less from my salary, i still gain when considering cost of living. i’m not suggesting they pay me a huge sum AND pay my lease off. looking to use some of the salary to cut a check and pay off the lease and be free of that financial burden before i make the move.
thanks, CD4. trying to explore any/all options. and this seemed worth a shot. glad to hear others have trotted down this path before.
