Has anyone ever successfully negotiated to be put on a higher step in a union job at a community college in a non-faculty job? HR has told me that all new employees are placed at step 1. Also, I asked for a bilingual pay differential because I will be serving Spanish speaking clients and the job listed bilingual as a preferred requirement, and they said they do not offer that. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Interviewing for Cyber Sec role. At very beginning they ask salary exp. I said usual way to postpone that question, and to figure out their range for role. On final interview and I mentioned 85-95k and they said it’s on the lower end for role…. Did I lowball myself?
