Are BigLaw hours in London really that bad? Would an MC firm be a safer option as a foreign qualified lawyer looking to make a move.

I disappoint myself. Came back from a weekend trip with my bf of many years thinking I was gonna be refreshed cause I have work problems. Instead I came back feeling the opposite. Resenting everything. It was his work trip so I tagged along, we only got to spend like a day together. He's an extrovert and I'm an introvert. I don't like drinking. Leaving my (London, big US) firm; HR has sent me various confirmations they are asking me to sign “before my last day”: I haven’t taken any docs, am aware of my regulatory obligations, don’t have any claims against the firm, have returned everything I need to return etc etc etc. This feels like an obvious try-on: the firm isn’t paying me anything to sign, my reg obligations are unaffected by it etc. How do others manage these? Just walk out on last day?

How big a step up is it as an associate in a Magic Circle firm to a US firm in terms of hours and responsibility?

What are peoples opinions on work from home? It seems to be an unpopular opinion but as a junior I despise it. I work 3 feet from my bed, I find the barriers of a phone/email between me and a senior to add a huge amount of stress to my life and I think it’s stunting my career development at my firm because I can’t build relationships as effectively. I’ve never at all had mental health issues before but now am really starting to feel burnt out and anxious most of the time. What do you think?

London folk, question for you: do firms and offices in London not recruit candidates directly? I hardly see positions advertised on the websites of these firms but there are vacancies that they seem to recruit for through recruiters. What’s the deal here? Does it make sense to approach firms by yourself at all? Would appreciate any insight I can get on the matter. Thank you!
