Has anyone ever worked for a solo practice? Was the work shared between you and the attorney? Or was it solely on you? Including handling of the billing?

You will likely be responsible for everything short of payroll, court appearances, and complex drafting. Find a larger firm that has an HR department and an IT department. These tiny shops will squeeze you for every ounce of your being while taking two week long vacations every other month and giving you only 5 or 10 days total a year to use between vacation and sick

Solo firms are a nightmare in my experience. They rely on you for everything and guilt trip the life out of you for taking a sick or vacation day. Ever.

I’ve worked for great solo practitioners starting out, now 20 years in I left another about a year ago because of exactly what Lit Paralegal 1 posted

I handled a lot of everything and you definitely need to know where the unauthorized practice of law line is. Loved it as the attorney I worked for was a great mentor and teacher but it was admin and paralegal work across trusts and estates, corporate, real estate, etc. loved it all but ultimately knew I wanted to focus on corporate.

You can definitely make it work out for you if you are good and become indespinsable

They do lawyer work and I do staff work.

I worked for a solo attorney once, he didn’t bill. He didn’t require billing. Infact, none of the attorneys I had worked for in the passed required billing. But I think all ought to.

I did it! I got an in-house Paralegal position after years of working and being burned out at different law firms. I was going to leave the legal field all together because I was so burned out and depressed, but I decided to give the field one more chance if I was able to go in-house. Prayerfully, this transition will be a good one.

So I have my bachelors in criminal justice and I just finished my paralegal certificate course today. My attorney should be making partner this year. With that being said I told her that I would complete my certificate by the summer around the time she would make partner. Should I mention to her Monday that I completed my paralegal certificate in hopes that the raise will be bigger or should I wait until June when she makes partner.thoughts?

Currently a paralegal at a small start up financial services company been there for just a little over a year. I wear “multiple hats” but more recently I’ve done a lot of PM work and some BA work. My position title is changing soon but I’m wondering how helpful that would be for wanting to go into PM work at a tech company. Anyone have any career pivot advice? (Also I’m only 1.5yrs old in my career so I’m definitely still new, and I have previous experience as a project assistant).

Paralegals: My firm is looking for a paralegal, and I see the job posting advertising the salary as $65-$75k, with benefits. Is this a good salary for a paralegal (Greater LA area)? I’m not the decision maker, but it’s been a few weeks with very few applicants. I’m curious if there’s something hurting the firm in its search.

What is the average paralegal salary in NC for a commercial real estate law office? I’ve been with a great firm for the last 9 years but am starting to wonder if I’m being compensated fairly. The company is about 30 employees (mostly attorneys) but I work primary for 4 of the attorneys.

Hi everyone. Is it typical for the attorney to take credit for the work a paralegal does? An example: I gave some ideas about deposition questions and some observations I made (I was asked about giving suggestions) regarding a witness and the attorney mentioned that he’s the one that had these great questions/observations. Zero credit or thank you for the work I did.

Are there any fully remote lawfirms, ie you don't have to live in the state they have offices? I recently left a large lawfirm to go in-house which came with a huge paycut that is not going to be sustainable long term, but needed a remote position to be able to move. I'd like to keep my current job part-time but get back in a lawfirm too.
