Do you mean a state ag position?
Yeah, I am presently in a State AG Office and wanted to know if anyone ever had success going from that role to AUSA
Thanks for following up. At the USAO I worked at we did have AAGs/DAsG come in from the state criminal divisions. However, they were in special units (e.g. cyber crime, financial crimes) and it wasnt very common. We also had older very experienced District Attorneys join, but again, not very common and dependent on the incumbent US Attorney.
The most common route was federal clerkship, and then big law white collar litigation. We had one dwmocrat USA who preferred that route and Republicans who were more open to state/county routes.
Your mileage may vary depending on state, connections, your experience, etc.
I know people in my office who have done this. Generally if you were not an AUSA caliber candidate already, this is probably not going to get you there.
