^ I wouldn't consider not making a deal fruitless. Most opportunities don't end up with closing a deal anyway
Also curious about how you think upward mobility works with roles in those teams. Any insights are definitely appreciated.

I’m in industry now on a Cop Strat team and we work closely with our Corp Dev team. We have a lot of ex consultants on our Corp Dev team and I kinda think that’s a red flag (as opposed to having ex bankers). The pro is that they don’t work as much as consulting but I would say the con is that they do a lot of fairly fruitless work that doesn’t end in a deal.
@D2 out of curiosity, why is it a bad thing that it’s more former consultants than investment bankers?
To me the team doesn’t seem to be great at doing deals like I assume bankers who have deal experience would be. To compare I interned at another company in the same industry with a Corp Dev team that was half the size, all bankers, and closed 5x the number of deals/year than the company I’m at now.
