Saves time if you know how to prompt it correctly. I teach larger classes of students with special needs and need individual plans for almost all of them. AI saves me from having to make those plans/materials at home. I do put specific information about each of my students (minus names) into the prompts. You still have to do quite a bit of thinking about outcomes and then prompting very specifically at the beginning, but the AI will then do many of the tedious parts of lesson planning for you. It will also come up with materials/activities for each individual student to meet them at their levels. I use ChatGPT, among others. They are all basically the same to me… the difference is the humans doing the prompting.
I have started to use AI to write special ed evaluation reports. I put in my notes from the evaluation without student specific details like names or personal identifiers. It saves a ton of time. Since we have greater caseloads and less staff, our admin encourages us to do this. I was hesitant at first. I am older and not very trusting of AI but I am learning to embrace it because I don’t feel like I have a choice.
There are education-specific tools like Colleague AI. I would not use ChatGPT.
I use AI to generate differentiation especially for reading assignments for my students. My EC students get 6th grade reading level and my honors in AP students get 12th grade or even college level readings.

I've had good luck using Gemini to design Unit plans and large, multi-step projects.
You definitely have to refine it rather than just using it cut-and-paste, but it gets about 80% of the way there. Definitely a time saver.
I use it on a limited basis and I know many teachers who do. Some teachers are generating the majority of their assignments via AI.
Planning specialized assignments and instructions in special ed AI is a very helpful tool.
I sometimes use Grammarly when I want to check my documents. I just see it as a more advanced form of spellcheck. But that’s it for me.
I use several different LLMs for various tasks. I find them to be very helpful.
