Has anyone studied / completed the UX Design course from Brainstation.io? How was it / what were the costs like?

hi all! using a moniker for privacy reasons - i’m a graduate consultant at a boutique shop in Sydney ~3 months of experience after a bachelors in business from UTS (graduated earlier this year). my 485 expires in Oct 2024, and i’m keen to stay back after that - can anyone who’s been there done that share some things that i can start doing to help my chances of being sponsored? this might include things i can do on the job as well as other options like networking.. thanks!

Stern is way more than a finance school. Given its location, do you want to spend your 2 years in a rural area or heart of Manhattan? Location is almost everything for business school. (I have a friend in Cornell that frequently travels about 5 hours to NYC for events.)

Hi all, debating whether to apply to MBA this year or next. I’m an Asian female, 330 GRE, 3.65 GPA in economics from a T10 undergrad. Hey guys, need some advice. I was fortunate enough to get the Consortium fellowship at Ross but am also stuck on the CBS waitlist and am still planning to apply to Wharton in R3. Assuming I get into CBS/Wharton, is there that much of a difference between them to forgo scholarship money? How often is it okay to switch organizations? I know this is entirely specific to a particular situation /circumstance but just wanted to know, how often should one change companies, without coming into scrutiny for the same?

My situation: after working with an organization for over 7 yrs, I've switched from the next one in 1.5 yrs and about to switch again after completing 1.2 yrs in my current org.

I'm in Oklahoma, and an avid Aldi shopper. Prior to COVID, my favorite merlot was routinely stocked there - under $6 a bottle and better than many $30 bottles I've had. It was by Burlwood Cellars. Sadly, supply chain issues have apparently done a number on Aldi's wine selection and it's not carried there anymore. I've searched high and low for a comparable merlot, but to no avail. So I need alternate suggestions or better still, somewhere I can buy my old fav.

Switching from commission to salary!

I’m considering a less sales-oriented role that doesn’t pay commission. The new role will have a higher base but lower overall earning potential.

What % haircut should be expected? As an example, if I make 100k (base + commission) today, would it be realistic to ask for 90k (10% cut) + equity to make up the difference?

After a long interview process, I had to decline an offer from Amazon. I was really excited, but they wanted to start me as an L4. I already have offers on the table $15,000 more then the possible top compensation an L4 can get.

Curious to hear others experiences with their Product Managers. What are some nightmares you’ve dealt with?

Is it normal for a Product Owner to lay out specs for how a feature should work?

I thought that was my job as the ux designer to figure out the best way to solve a need. But I’m getting handed projects where the PO, and sometimes the senior designer has laid out exactly what should happen (components used, flow, etc) to design a feature. It’s really frustrating because I don’t know if I’m supposed to be speaking up on what I think or just do the UI work I’m asked to.

How important was your portfolio to land your first UXR job? There are mixed messages out there...

For other Senior Managers, Directors and above, how do you stay on top managing your team, and also your understanding of your users? I rely on my team through the projects they work on, and the insights they arrive at through the research/design process. I rely on listening to sales calls now and then. I joined a project that had already started and the team already settled on creating a user journey map, even though none of them are designers or in ux. I also have no experience in this field as I'm a data engineer. The user journey map was for mapping out the process for tenants finding housing assistance, so not a technical product. Given this new field and type of work, I've been having a really tough time. Anyone mind sharing what helped get you through your first ux project?

How do you approach usability testing for new onboarding sequences? I work with a variety of SaaS businesses and recently requests have come in to test onboarding prototypes.

New users are the first to touch onboarding so how do I recruit the appropriate participants to test? Recruiting new users doesn’t seem feasible, I would think we should run A/B tests and cross-check analytics to measure success? Any insight is appreciated!

Trying to get out of consulting. Ux is so watered down and I’m terrified that it’s going to stunt my growth. I’m overall just not happy. Sure, consulting pats decently but I love the field of UX and just get stuck making wireframes that the customer requests. The field is so competitive right now and I can’t seem to land another job. My product owner doesn’t understand the value of standard practices like information architecture, use personas, and just want to get to wireframes as soon as possible. Even after a few of us demonstrating that value and the founder chiming in to agree with us. How have you all combatted this before?
