How important was your portfolio to land your first UXR job? There are mixed messages out there...

More important for UX designers than researchers.
What you really need is a few ways to demonstrate how you work and the impact you’ve made.
For me that is a case study presentation and that’s something you’ll likely need. I also wrote up a few projects using the STAR method and had those pdfs available. I haven’t found the need for a public portfolio. If I’m asked for a portfolio I say I have a case study I can walk them through if they would like to interview me.

I’ve submitted my portfolio in the past when I was looking at UX research positions. One of them asked me to go through my portfolio as a part of the interview, just outlining my process and thinking. But like the other person said, more for UX designers. But it’s a good way to track progress, especially if you have final screens or designs that show your thinking

WFH Vs WF Office Vs Hybrid, Which one should you take?
If you are fresher, go for a WF Office setup. You will learn things beyond your work. In the initial phase of of your career, one needs to focus more on learning than on comfort. The interactions at office, meeting with collegues, conversations at the cafeteria, sense of responsibilty, the need to walk up on time to reach office etc will shape you for better.

Once you have a work experience of few year then any setup is fine. Go for WFH.

Okay finance lawyers. I don't understand this issue. Client says books show we're highly profitable but we have no way to pay our tax liability.... Well where the hell did tbe money go ? Client also claims that they are only taking a small portion of the revenue as profit. I don't understand how your books can be different than reality.

Now applying for public accounting firms entry level positions but almost all firms HR asked if I had ever worked in firms. Got rejection emails from firms all the time. Is this a dead lock? firms exp matters much more than a CPA license?

Looking for some advice on a career change. I work in a technical role and have well-developed soft skills. I want to transition to UX (w/ focus on accessibility). There are a lot of UX educational programs out there, some very new, e.g. Dribbble, and costs are all over the place - General Assembly is $15k (and full-time), CareerFoundry almost $8k, and then many others at a fraction of the price. Reviews also vary wildly. Are these more expensive programs worth the huge increase in cost?

I joined a project that had already started and the team already settled on creating a user journey map, even though none of them are designers or in ux. I also have no experience in this field as I'm a data engineer. The user journey map was for mapping out the process for tenants finding housing assistance, so not a technical product. Given this new field and type of work, I've been having a really tough time. Anyone mind sharing what helped get you through your first ux project?

Is there anyone here who is a UX strategist? I’m looking to make a change from the healthcare industry to UX and I think strategy or research is where I’d like to land but would love to talk to someone currently in this field!
