This may be controversial, but having received offers from every interview I’ve had, it’s served me very well:
Stalk the interviewer— digitally, at least.
IG, Spotify playlists, etc.— collect all the info you can to get a general understanding of who you’ll be speaking with. Don’t contort yourself or pretend to be someone you’re not, but do a thorough vibe check so you can show up and feel more familiar than you would otherwise. It’s a secret upper hand which will make you more comfortable and the conversation much easier.
At the end of the day managers hire people they want to be around, so try and figure out what their vibe is ahead of time so you can match it.
And don’t sleep on art directing the background of your zoom frame to remind them of things they like 🥷🏻
I just received two rejection emails from roles I interviewed for recently. Both teams said I made a great impression, had strong experience, and would be a great addition. However, they decided to move in other directions.
While I appreciate the kind feedback, it is frustrating to feel like I am back at square one, especially when I am eager to move on from my current company. If my work and demeanor stood out, maybe I am falling short in how I handle the interviews themselves.
So much is out of your control. Unless you feel specifically like your interviews could be better I wouldn’t worry about that part.
I think it’s more about preparing like a madman. Work 5x as hard as it should be and then the actual interview you’ll be able to free associate great answers.
I’m in pretty much the exact same boat as you. I’m attributing my final round rejections to the difficulty of the market right now with all the qualified candidates available. I just try to be glad that I have a job at all right now
