Has your definition of success changed since your layoff? Taking a step away from my prior role has given me a lot of perspective on things and I no longer see the value in "hustling" and overworking to become successful in the traditional sense.

Sure, once you've been laid off you realize that a lot of things you did that went above and beyond really counted for nothing. In the end, we are all just entries on a spreadsheet and that's about it. I have conflicted feelings, as I feel like it's ethically important to do a good job. But, I also realize it's just unrealistic to think that will be rewarded.

That is the sad truth. I think most of us believe we are in our positions based on merit, but when the time comes for corporations to save money, we really are just numbers.

I could not agree with this more. Ever since I was laid off I realized that I was working tons of overtime and pulling late nights to work hard and be seen. In the end it doesn't really matter because they will still lay you off. There is no use burning yourself out.

Yes! My perspective has changed a lot since I was laid off. Overworking really didn’t get me that far when I look back, did make me realize the value in it, if I’m doing it for myself. Used to work like it was my own business I was benefitting, and the truth is it wasn’t worth it.

I can totally relate to that! There really are so many workers like us who give 110% in their work, and would benefit so much if we just gave that effort to ourselves!

Hi Team,

I have cleared all the interview rounds (WebEx & HR on call) for the position: VERIFIER, and also submitted documents (authentic as per my knowledge) for background verification on Aug. 25, 2022.

How much time usually ICICI bank takes to generate Offer Letter, after all the verification process??

I love living in Miami, but have found it incredibly difficult to make friends. I had a thriving social life/ friend group in Chicago. Anyone else finding it hard to build friendships here?

I am so conflicted and not sure what to do. A company I wanted to work for was not ready for hire when I first reached out in Sept. Since then I have accepted a job at a outpatient oncology clinic, starting in Jan at a renowned hosp. Having said that the other company does more of what I was hoping to do when I left my previous job. The company is a vessel for new ideas in healthcare helping their community specifically with seed funding, & launching their own programs. I have no idea what to do

Was laid off in Sept. Unfortunately we will be seeing many more coming. It's what happens in a recession. Unfortunately I now also have my age against me. Not in a mentally good place at the moment.

Hi everyone. I was a solution engineer at Oracle. I graduated from college in May and this was my first job out of college so the lay offs were pretty rough. I majored in Supply chain management and I have 2 internships under my belt. Do you guys have any advice or tips on what to do moving forward? I would like to stay in tech and I’m giving it a few weeks before I start pivoting to more traditional supply chain roles. Thanks.

Follow up post to my last post…My husband was laid off from the company where I also work. I am feeling really isolated / depressed about working and moving forward. I’m also getting to a stage where I’m really sad that people haven’t reached out to either my husband or myself to send well wishes or provide support. It’s like they don’t know what to say or I make them feel awkward so they don’t bother…I’m trying to focus on a few that have been supportive but it’s hard…Any words of advice? 😞

The severance package at Meta for laid off employees almost makes it nice to be laid off depending on what your personal situation is….. personally wouldn’t mind getting 4+ months of full pay to reset and think about what’s next 😬

like

6 months pregnant and just laid off. And 40% of my severance was just taken in taxes .. I just spoke with paid family leave and I no longer qualify even though I had been paying into the program (thanks NY).. I already applied for unemployment but doctors are telling me I’ve got 10-14 weeks left in this pregnancy.. so stressed having twins and being unemployed, no maternity leave, no paychecks coming in, and I’ve been applying but not a single interview.. just ugh. 😭
