No job is worth suffering mentally for. I’ve done exactly what you describe in the past, twice, and have had no issues finding new work. There are many companies out there; public and private. Find a group and company that fits your mold.
Definitely try to hang on as long as you can so you’re not burning bridges and so you can start to think what you’d like to line up. Then just let your managers etc know when you’ve hit your limit/can’t pick something up/need help or just need a break/sleep and if they can’t accommodate it will be less of a surprise when you do check out.
Iwish I could find something lined up rn to leave
Get back to work
Bite me
If you’re being talked to and otherwise treated civilly and humanely then I suggest doing whatever it takes to tough it out.
It’s better if you do your 2 weeks, as it’ll help you maintain the relationship if you ever want to come work for them again, but I truly understand where you’re coming from. I’m going through something similar and I can’t leave cuz my immigration status depends on it.
I would if I could. I worked for 13hrs a day average for 5 months with half Sundays off and it’s still not ending
Sorry you’re going through that. It’s definitely not sustainable to be working long hours especially since these busy seasons seem to be dragging in to May/June.
If you’re on multiple jobs send out an email to all the managers and let them know what’s on your list to complete along with the deadlines.
Let them know you’re spread pretty thin, and ask what you should prioritize. Perhaps they could take on a work paper or few, help you delegate or even reach out for lore resources.
Edit* realized it didn’t answer your question but hope it helps.
What’s making you hit your limit? Genuinely curious
We don’t have the resources for these tasks to be completed for any of these audits, I’ve expressed multiple times to the teams that we need more resources if it’s going to get completed, one of the audit teams is disrespectful of the time allocated to my other clients and keeps taking more hours than they are allotted no matter how much I push back, and on top of it I now have to fly 8 hours out on Sunday and back on Saturday for the next 5 weeks.
Are you considering leaving without another job lined up?
Omg you sound just like me!! I feel your pain!! And i was ready to quit tomorrow! But you know what ? i said i cant even collect unemployment if i just quit. So now iam thinking maybe i can find a Part time or even a Temp job while I decide my next move! I even thought maybe i can bartend or babysit. My job is just killing my mental wellbeing. I have to eat up hours and im beyond overwhelm.
Life is short. No job is worth your mental health. Don’t go out guns blazing but be honest, they can’t argue against that
You’ve got soft hands brother. But on a serious note it’s good for you and the development of your mental agility. If you can’t handle incharging a few public’s, then couldn’t really trust you at management level once you’re in industry.
I’ve handled a lot more than this with the proper resource allocation. You’re making a lot of assumptions on why I’m in the situation, which wasn’t the point of the post. I didn’t go straight into public accounting, I was in a different career field before this and have juggled plenty of high pressure, high volume projects simultaneously. We are not adequately staffed for the timeline these jobs are on.
