Hi there the PIP has to be sure to list the behaviors you are trying to have the employee improve on.
It needs to be precise so for example if the behavior is missed deadlines. Performance Improvement initiative #1 is Timely submission of work assigned. Then build in steps to help the employee meet that goal. Ex: Assignment is received by employee, the employee and manager will agree on length of time to complete the request. One week after initial agreement of submission there should be a check in to ensure on time performance. This is very granular but I think it should be a good starting point. In addition, you have to be sure to include time frames to achieve each performance initiative and then build in that there should be a period of 30/60/90 whatever you decide that this improvement should continue.
It’s exactly as the prior commenter states. I would also note that if it is something pertaining to attendance, that the length of time to correct the action could be immediately. Honestly, the length of time to correct any action doesn’t have to be a long time frame and the majority of things can be corrected immediately.
The most important thing, though, is to be consistent and ensure it is being enforced, otherwise there is no point.
