Bain & Company I’m currently prepping for Bain & Company and McKinsey & Company interviews scheduled in the next 2 months. For those that interviewed with both, how would you suggest I tailor my preparation for each one? I understand McKinsey is interviewer led while Bain is the opposite. But other than that, is there anything else I should work on separately for each one?

I had a recruiter reach out to me from a well rated “Glassdoor” firm. After I told him I took some time off to be a line cook and love out my dream, he laughed at me over the phone. It sucks, but you will find people who will give you a chance and be happy they did
Me. I’ve been hired 2-3x without a current job. What is there to judge? What does it matter if previous employment can be verified?
On good terms
Yes I did. No I don’t. Everyone has a story and 99% is none of my business during an interview.
There is a lot of bias against unemployed people. During the great recession, federal incentives were given to employers who hired unemployed workers. The bias is real, and it hits those who already experience discrimination even harder!
Yes it matters. Hard to do something about it (story how you intentionally were unemployed for the time)
For me it hasn’t really factored so much into the decision to hire. When it comes time to negotiating a compensation package, people who are already employed are coming from a greater position of strength than those who may be perceived as more desperate / willing to take a lower offer.
I just hired somebody that spent the last several months just riding around the country. But also has the skills and experience I need and just needed a break from work. I’m cool with that.
If they were fired with cause, yes. Otherwise who cares. If they just needed a break and had the confidence to quit and take it, I’m envious of them.
