Yes, because it is difficult to question a parent prioritizing their child over work. When you factor in that many parents are single parents, the price of childcare, and the guidelines of schools regarding sick children, it further complicates matters.
I have zero issue with supporting colleagues with kids and have remained adaptable. However, the workplace and healthcare specifically is not designed for nuanced employees. From parenting to illness to educational aspirations, the traditional work environment leaves employees choosing between their job and their personal goals.
I see your point! All these various factors complicates it for sure. It would be nice if our work environments shifted to accommodate those with children without impacting the child-free employees.
Yes and yes and yes and yes. This is a sensitive subject for me because a coworker gets off any shift she needs for child related purposes, but when I ask for a day off, it's like pulling teeth to get it approved. I guess I need to have a baby and be LESS available to get those benefits...

Life happens! Even if it wasn’t a kid causing them to not come to work or show up late. Coverage would still be needed so I don’t feel that it is solely because you don’t have any children- that kind of sound selfish to me
