Almost done with second weeks in industry. I absolutely LOVE IT! Ive been making a point to reach out to people from different teams via Slack and arrange a quick meet and greet zoom call. Been introducing myself mostly to the heads of each department, head of marketing, head of sales, head of product development. to get a better idea of what everyone does, and asked sales/product for walkthroughs of the products so that I know exactly what we offer as a company

I love teaching art but am having to teach remotely to 1150 kids, k - 5. Have about 54 amazing elementary art teachers in my district that share SO much! I could retire (34 yrs), but just don’t want to because I love what I do! Feeling like my students aren’t getting what they should because I am struggling with Zoom, Microsoft, safe YouTube, bitmoji, embedding, downloads, editing, etc. Anyone else feeling this way?

What made you snicker, chuckle, chortle, giggle or laugh today? Quiet to maniacal, have at it. To get the obvious off the list... paycheck, hours, unlimited time off, budgets, looming deadlines, and pets on zoom/teams meetings.

Which agency does a great job in helping new hires get adjusted when first joining? Starting a new job on zoom seems hard.

I need to do a timeline with lots of information over a long period of time. I wanted to that in Tableau, but partner will not pay license and data is sensitive so I cannot use Tableau public.
Do you have suggestions?

Has anyone seen any unique places to find UX portfolios or post jobs other than the usual suspects?
Some UX Slack channels were doing well for a while but I definitely don’t see as much traction there. Meetups obviously came and went. Even the portfolio sites like Dribbble and Behance don’t seem that same.

For those of you living alone, how are you keeping yourself entertained during social distancing? I’m hundreds of miles from my family and the loneliness is starting to get really hard. Zoom/FaceTime calls seem to make the feeling worse, not better. I just feel so isolated. I’ve gone for some outdoor walks with a friend who lives nearby, but otherwise I go weeks without in-person interactions. Any suggestions?

I’m working on a product that helps to make life on Slack more productive. The purpose of this Slackbot is to answer questions automatically using content that has already been shared in Slack. Generally curious how many companies offer phone reimbursement? My last gig did not but the current one does. Legally it seems, all employers are required to do so if we use our phone in literally any capacity (video call, slack, teams, emails etc). How prevalent is the issue of not reimbursing phone dues?

I'm waiting on a verdict for a civil jury trial (first one) and I want to go snowboarding tomorrow. They deliberated from 9-5 today with no verdict. Is it super frowned upon if I zoom in (it was a zoom trial) in a car or on the mountain or a lodge or something?
