I recently interviewed with MITRE for a systems engineering role to make the move from Leidos where I feel underpaid for the work I do and for my experience ($85K). I have 4 YOE, a STEM degree, and soon will have a Masters Degree. I’m looking to make around $120K in the new role at Mitre. Does anyone have any insight into comp there? This would be in the DC metro area. Does $120K seem reasonable or am I dreaming?

Whether a small mid or big, you will get a base. Your base will depend if small mid or big and you will get a commision on all cases. Typically either pooled commission or when you settle any given case. Usually 5-10%, higher as you move up.
Type of firm matters. Big, you will get a mid salary and 10% with a lot of volume so you can make a lot. But your original fee may be smaller at big firms. Smaller firms will be happy to give you 33.33% (if not, run).
PI firms, as you move up, will get you to come down on your base and give you a higher % assuming you are taking on more and more cases as you grow in the firm. If its a morgan and morgan, theyll have so many cases you will handle cases from commencement to trial, whicn means you wont be settlting consisntently for at least a year, which means your base naturally has to be higher for them to convince u to work for them.
I can go on, msg me if you need.

SoFL partner here. We pay a lower but still 6 figure base, X% on cases you work after we hit a threshold, and a commission on cases you originate of 35%.
Ex: 100k base, 5% on fees after $300k for the year, 35% on cases you bring in, health, dental, 401k, few weeks of PTO
As you get more senior we bump the base and tier the %

Firm generates all the cases. If you give people a super easy path to OK money they take it and get complacent. Especially in PI. We put the carrot on the stick. One of the biggest motivators is the xtras at Xmas time. If our seasoned attorneys all make 200+ easily without generating shit, I think we will be just fine. This is NOT a new firm and we have no turnover. I also find it funny that people object to the threshold. It's in most firms per all the people we interview. What are you guys seeing for comp packages?
