Tech does not have the best track record with women and minorities, but I have worked in tech for most of my working life and if you are talented and can get in with a decent group of people (and can gain respect), you can have a career there and get paid. As people move on, you’ll end up with a nicely distributed network - which is what you need for a career. The cool thing about tech is that you might start in one area and then branch out to other areas - so you might start out as an engineer but might then use those same skills to excel as a solutions architect, product manager, customer success (with a tech background you can move into those leadership positions), etc. I spent a lot of my career being the only or one of the few people of color in an entire company - so you will be a pioneer in many ways. I’m not trying to discourage you as there are definitely opportunities!
