Hello! During our annual review my Boss agreed that I would be promoted by our next review. We are doing our mid year reviews now. Should I include this as a goal to keep us both accountable or is having the conversation enough?

I currently do securities ops/accounting but want to move into a more client facing role. One of our marketing/client service associates got a promotion, so I’m guessing she’ll be doing higher level work, which may leave a gap for some of the work she used to do. How would I go about asking if I can work on that team in some capacity but still do my current role? I’ve only been there 1 yr and I know my current manager also has some higher level items in securities ops he wants me to do as well.

Currently work in a mountain west region city doing high asset divorce and criminal defense work. I was a teaching assistant in law school and am looking to start teaching adjunct classes this coming fall. No experience in big law. Always done government or small/boutique law. My ASM is lazy and is incapable of doing the easiest basic tasks with recruitment. She receives all my end of day updates, is cc’d on all emails, makes me fill out 5 repetitive excel/smart sheet, and joins all my meetings but she still wants to call having me 5x daily about updates. I’m always the one to go to if other recruiters fail to meet client deadlines and cleaning up recruiters mistakes. How do I even handle this to begin with?

Anybody have experience neutralizing or even co-opting powerful skeptics? My team is in the cross hairs of a major player with an axe to grind. I am trying to speak their language and frame my team’s value in terms they value but I still feel extremely vulnerable.
