OpenAI Hello, first year attorney here. I’m just wondering what directions I could go with my career in L&E—what does it take to work on L&E projects for large corporations like OpenAi, Google, Microsoft etc. I really want to tailor my career around AI but don’t know how to or where to start.

I don’t think you’re going to have much ability to dictate this at the junior level apart from seeking out work for similar companies at your current firm. That being said, I’d say your priority as a junior is to learn fundamentals of L&E, legal practice, and law firm life first.

Re: AI and L&E, I think work for these types of companies won’t look much different than typical L&E work. The more prescient cross-section between AI and L&E is where employers use AI tools to hire, fire, wage and hour compliance, etc.

I'm not sure that I see the connection between AI and L&E work, unless you're going to be working for an AI company on projects or advising them on L&E issues.

To be fair, I know very little about AI and it's role in the legal field in general.

NYC has a bias audit requirement for employers that use AI software for employment decisions (e.g., who gets interviewed, which applicants should be discarded). I believe CO will have a similar law go into effect next year. These laws affect employers across all industries though, not just tech.

My professional life at the moment is far from ideal. I’ve been on quarantine (long story, but a good one) for the last seven years. Royalties from my books don’t pay the bills. My entrepreneurial pursuits remain hampered. For the interim, I’ve been looking for a remote opportunity where I can leverage my skills in marketing, sales, social media, and elsewhere for a decent sum. I have a social media presence which, in recent years, reached millions. There has to be something exciting I can do.

Currently scheduling “on sites” for a S&O role in CA. My referrer said they can hire as L5 or L6. Would like to land in the L6 bucket as I’ve heard 5 --> 6 is one of the more challenging promotions.

I’m looking for info on what the real difference is in responsibilities (manager vs IC, cross functional vs focused, etc) so I can focus on checking the L6 boxes during my interviews.

I’m also curious about whether this is something that I should just discuss with my recruiter directly?

I had a great review and a 5.5% raise and a great bonus at my company. But I also got a new Director and a peer manager of mine left the company, so I will be absorbing her team. In addition, my director said I will be receiving 'deep delegation' from them. I don't mind more work, but deep delegation is a new term I've never heard. What does that mean lol?

What is considered a “large” caseload in employment litigation? I work at a large L&E boutique law firm and handling about 14-15 active litigation cases in state/federal court or arbitration. Some of these matters are multi-plaintiff and multi-defendant cases, but none are class actions. This does not include any matters I am handling in the charge stage or in pre-litigation. Not sure if that’s a typical caseload or not?

Hello, I’m an associate (almost at the one year mark) at a midsize firm on the EPL team. I did about 2 years of employment law as a clerk during school and know that’s what I want to go into. I’ve asked for more EPL work but keep catching PI cases. I second-chaired an employment trial but don’t see any EPL work for the foreseeable future and wasn’t getting as much EPL exposure as I wanted before the trial. Any advice on a lateral move to a bigger firm with a broader range of EPL work?
