Stay with the IRS and Starr working on your general education requirements at your local community college. That will be the best deal and you can continue to build your tenure even if you reduce your hours. If you get a bachelor's in accounting after doing an associates at community College then all those years with the IRS will help you in your job search. Otherwise it won't be relevant experience.
Being your age, first figure out what you want to do for maybe next 5 years. With accounting degree you can make a good living and considering you already have experience, I would stick with accounting degree. Also, this profession gives you flexibility of not requiring to be physically in the office (I know a lot of employers require return to the office but still having this as an option is a big advantage).
Exploring other trades is good but think what you want your everyday to be like. Able to work from home or required to be in the office/client site etc is something to consider.
If I were your age. I would, with no hesitation, study accounting and pursue a degree there just because you already have a valuable experience. But it’s me. Some people love interacting with people on a daily basis and sitting at home in front of computer is not a good option.
Talk to people in different professions and interview them on what they like and don’t like and you will have all the information needed to make the right move.
Thank you for the advice.
That’s crazy you started at the IRS at sixteen, in a good way. Will done!
I do tax work so I’m biased, but stick with tax! Fuck all that other stuff lol
