VENT: I feel completely demotivated after our new FOW announcement and it gave me whiplash. Working here has been a dream, so it feels weirdly hurtful to be publicly celebrated as part of the “expanded talent pool” in announcements, but be told privately that my return to the office will be accompanied by a massive pay cut because of where I live. I didn’t choose to live here/move, the company chose ME where I’m at. I feel like I don’t belong because everyone else seems happy with this.

Considering lateraling to a bigger firm that pays closer to market or market. I really like my current firm and coworkers and WLB, but I am being underpaid. Based on conversations with my PG leader and supervising partner, I might make NEP/Counsel this year or next. How do you go about asking what the pay bump for that is? After 15 years in the industry, I can really say that these last few years have been the most challenging in terms of navigating all the sensitivity and political correctness.

I have 5 YOE in Analytics... always thought I wanted to be a DS, but every job (even the junior ones) required experience in ML development. Though I am part of the ML project, I'm not the person develop the model. And I have a hard time when the interviewer ask about how I develop the model and what hyperparameters I tuned. Over the past year, my counsel is constantly judged by a select few senior business folks (eg arguing over FTC compliance, IP risk counsel, and even simple things regarding NDAs that any attorney wouldn’t question.
