Don’t do it! Ogilvy finance is a terrible mess and you’ll be set up to fail by default. The Finance team and head of the department are truly lovely - best peers on a personal level. The team is not the problem, it’s the structure of the agency and years of disorder that are impossible to unravel at this point. You will be burned out upon arrival. The way Ogilvy tracks finances is beyond complicated. There is no consistent format and every department has their own system which makes it impossible for finance to communicate and track needs to account teams. Clients also are slow to pay which makes the fiancé’s team so complicated bc on books, ogilvy’s numbers are always red. I could go on and on about the difficulty on how they operate finances. Just don’t do it - you will be expected to jump at every hour of the day. 10 pm calls and emails, 6pm Friday deadlines. It’s not worth it. No matter how much you try to do your best, you will always miss something, get something wrong bc it’s impossible to follow their processes, or lack thereof.
The 10 pm calls/emails and 6 pm Friday deadlines are terrifying.
I worked in the finance department at Ogilvy way back when … I find that the tone is often set by the department lead and it varies by team … it is a very professional environment, but I felt very much like a COG in the machine and not a true collaborator, to behind the scenes for my taste.
But it does not hurt to have such a well-established agency on your resume, it had a hand in every role I got afterwards. I would rate my overall experience a (6/10)
I did an internship there many years ago and I'd echo D1's sentiment. Felt very much like a cog in a machine. I learned quite a bit, but it was a simple 9-5, consistent job (not that there's anything wrong with that, particularly since I worked with many people who had families and enjoyed being able to have low stress jobs). Overall I liked my time there.
I have heard really good things about them. I had a friend who worked there and she said the culture and wlb are great. She also said the benefits are good.
You can’t go wrong starting your career out at Ogilvy. They have good training and you’ll learn a lot. You’ll be a little fish in a big sea but it’ll serve you if you just soak in everything and learn from anyone/everyone. Well respected.
I have worked with Oglivy in the past, agencies can be a bit stressful but overall it can be interesting...it won't be exciting but it'll be consistent
