Hey all, our 6 mo old has a flat spot. We saw the “specialist” yesterday for all 5 minutes who basically said “maybe helmet, maybe he’ll grow out of it.” We see the helmet techs on Monday. We’re just at a loss on what to do and that helmet is $3K. Anyone deal with this?

Had two kids with this issue. Son's was fairly significant and helmet helped a lot

Daughter was right at the tolerance limit, but insurance paid anyways so we got it. Less measurable improvement but we weren't as disciplined about using it. (It was summer and made her head very sweaty, which she hated)

We were told the same thing about our son by gambled without the helmet and it was fine. Some people feel like doctors are quick to go to the helmet but it's really tough to say you'll trust your kid will grow out of it. $3k a drop in the bucket compared to overall cost of a kid but I hate paying for things that aren't necessary.

Tough call unfortunately. You could always skip the helmet and then tell your kid he can never shave his head. Good luck!

funny

This is where I’m at with my wife.

We got the helmet for $5K. Turns out, it was fully covered by insurance. He only wore it for a couple months and his head looks fantastic now

Our son had a flat spot. It was noticeable to us but apparently still measured on the border within the tolerance of being okay. We still elected to go the helmet route to correct. Insurance agreed with the specialist therefore the cost was ours to pay. Since he was a premie and at the hospital for about 6 weeks, we elected to get the helmet. It worked well and I’m glad we did. I guess we’ll always wonder if he would have grown out of it on his own.

Brother, say that to my wife

smart

Research says helmets don’t do anything.

Researchers… anywho. We were not comfortable with the risk so we got the bucket. He mostly outgrew with the helmet not sure I could look at him with a straight face when he tried dating with a middle shaped head was my logic. I don’t remember anything about the money how much it cost her pick up reimbursed but I do remember I did what I could to help my kid. It’s a tough decision I don’t envy you. appreciate you for loving your kid and your partner enough to ask and seek counsel.

Can you be more specific what you mean by flat spot?

If you mean flat spot on their head - then yes, almost all kids develop normally. The only way to avoid it in the first few months is obsessively rotate your baby back and forth to lay on each side through the day/night (which my wife did) but I know plenty of people whose kid had a flat spot but grew out of it. Don’t be insane to spend that $$$$ on something that will naturally take care of itself

It will not naturally take care of itself in all cases. All depends on age, genetics, and how the baby is continuing to sleep and how much they’re off their head. A quick google will show you tons of kids with poorly shaped heads.

And in severe cases, it can lead to health problems later.

I’m assuming your child has flat head. Our child had to wear a helmet (we chose the docband).

Does your insurance cover at all? Usually the helmet provider does research for you. Docband definitely did this for us and told us final costs.

The odds of your baby “growing out of it” at 6 months is lower. You’re taking a risk on delaying the inevitable needing to wear a helmet. Basically the older your baby gets the harder the skull gets, and therefore the harder to shape it. So the longer you wait the longer it’ll take to reshape (ie wear the helmet).

Our kid wasn’t that bad and at 5 months old it took 3 months to be done with the helmet.

Go to a helmet provider and they’ll do additional measurements to give you a more accurate prognosis and let you know how severe it is.

Good to know. Ty

Get the helmet

It is a looks thing, their brain well be fine either way but 6 months is the perfect time to do the helmet.

100% recommend, did it for our could and would do it again

Resources for an enterprise BDR?

Hello All,

I recently got a job working as a BDR for an enterprise rep. We sell a SaaS product for other tech companies. It is a new realm for me as I have been primarily an AE throughout my career.

What resources are out there to help me learn how to work these accounts (500+ person companies)? looking for tips on everything from writing email cadences, sending video messages, and even qualifying leads during discovery calls.

Thanks for the help!
