I moved to Houston 5 years ago the same way. I had to find work in Houston and then move. It is hard. I applied for jobs daily but what really helped me was stating in my cover letter, I will be in Houston from say Sept 20-25 and will be available to interview. When I put that in my cover letter, I had tons of calls for interviews. I came to Houston in stayed in a hotel and interviewed with 3 jobs over the course of 3-4 days and one made the offer. Also mention that you are relocating at your own expense and that you'll be moving to Houston within the next 30 days. Some employers just want to know that you can start fairly quickly. If you make yourself accessible, you'll increase your chances. Even if you are not moving in 30 days just be ready to move in 30 days when the offer is made. When opportunity come, you have to jump. Also even if it isn't your dream job, just take it if it pay enough. Once you move, finding another job here will be 10 times easier.
I never thought about doing that before and I visited Houston last month in hopes I would have an interview at that time. Thanks for the advice I will
Definitely fix up my cover letter.
Look at the United Way job bank.
I didn’t think to look at them thanks.
I would remove your current address from your resume.
I agree. Phone number and email address is all you need on your resume and cover letter
