I don’t live there but I’m a block away if you have questions about the area at all. We looked at it about a year ago and ultimately decided not to because of the garbage reviews on Yelp and a bad experience with the leasing agents. Avalon as a national corporate company wasn’t appealing to us either versus a local landlord.
+1 to BCG1. It’s not anything exciting or hip.
I am curious how the pandemic will affect a lot of the small businesses, in conjunction with all the new high rises being completed and if it will continue to fast track its gentrification.
We always just walk straight through the neighborhood to get to Brooklyn Heights, Fort Greene, or Carroll Gardens. Takes under 10 min to get through.
We moved here primarily for transportation options and because my SO can walk to work from here. We’re only staying because we like having a doorman and we got significant rent concessions. The lack of a neighborhood vibe almost deterred us so if that’s your goal, I wouldn’t do it.
Not willoughby but I dated someone who lived in another Avalon building in Brooklyn. Great apartment, so much light, decent amenities.
I live in the Avalon Fort Greene which is ~10 min away. Have had a generally positive experience with the mgmt company but haven’t lived in that building specifically. Can also speak to the neighborhood if helpful
I was not paying for the gym pre-COVID but I think those fees were paused. My total monthly bill hasn’t changed
Lived there for 4 years. We moved into a brand new unit so it was rent stabilised but I heard from their staff that they can increase 5-10% yearly although who knows in this market. There is a rotating staff of doormen but they also handle packages so it’s not staffed 24/7. Maintenance staff are phenomenal. We had no issues with our apt and thought it was good quality for the most part and SO quiet, but some people did- windows leaking, water quality, they formed a group and we all got a $1000 credit for issues which was nice. The direct area is a little soulless but you are steps from target and TJs (and alamo draft house in better times) and fort greene / bkln heights is 10 mins away. If you have a good deal I would absolutely recommend for at least a year.
I just never told them I have a pet 😑 I had a cat who is afraid of everyone so I never would have used the dog run or the spa.
We got $240 deducted for cleaning which I thought was pretty reasonable for a 2 bed 2 bath.
