Hi all, I'm negotiating a mid-level Director role (global scope) at a UK ad agency. I asked for £85–95K + bonus, but they've offered £75K. I’ve been freelancing at £550/day with 8 years’ experience and 10+ clients. Should I accept for perm stability or hold out for closer to my range? Appreciate any advice!

Can you not do both? Are you able to do few hrs/day on freelancing v/s complete day?

It is a risk-reward decision. You need to ask yourself some questions. Where is the market for your experience heading (is it high growth or a becoming a commodity - or can it be disrupted with AI)? Do you value income stability (employment) vs higher remuneration (freelancing) but at a risk.

Can you do both? Take the employment offer but on a condition that you can service existing clients? Or do you need a break from the hustle of managing multiple clients?

Context-wise: it depends on your living and family circumstances- do you have a mortgage, have a family with dependents, and what type of lifestyle you value.

Currently I work for a small company that does the construction of small cell utility poles and roof top sites for the major cell carriers like VZW, T-mobile, AT&T and so on. I’m currently in a lease admin type role, in commercial real estate. I make a base salary of $50.5K with about $9k in bonuses. I’ve continuously received 7-10% raises over the last 3 years. I anticipate getting a promotion this year and would like to get closer to $60k for my base salary. I’m the only person in my role at the company and have been a key person in developing our team as we look to expand. Is this unreasonable? Is there a normal increase given with promotions? Thanks in advance!

Got offered 68k after 2 years as a contractor (62.5k) doing project management/business admin in a tech department at a Fortune 500 bank. I have an A.S degree and working on my bachelor’s/masters may 2024. I negotiated to 84k NYC. I have seen interns get offered 38 per hour (79k) for internship positions with a similar role.

Thoughts? Should I go higher? I do my job well that’s why they decided to keep me as a contractor after my internship.

For expert witnesses/lawyers

I’m a former forensic scientist that left the field several years ago. I recently received a subpoena from a case I worked and suggested to DA to have evidence re-worked by the lab or stipulation. If I am required to testify (as an expert witness), I would need to book a flight, hotel, etc. My question is this: can I ask for my requested hourly rate, travel, and hotel to be covered when speaking with DA or is that “not how this works” as the investigator put it?

Cash bonuses, raises, profit-sharing, company equity, 401k match, etc.

I’m interviewing with a startup and the range has a 40k difference from the lowest to highest point. It’s also pre-seed and comes with equity, and health, 401k benefits. It’s a director of sales role so I would eventually be recruiting and managing a team along with building the processes and strategy. What would you consider a fair compensation package? If they offer me something on the lower end of the range, is it still appropriate to counter with an offer that is over their stated range?
