The new company I’m at now sent me an email from an email address that was HR@companyName.careers saying I was accepted for the position. They gave me paperwork to fill out and sign to accept the position
I fill out the paperwork and send it back to them and it goes through… then a few days later I go back to the email to say something else and I get this…?
Then today I got a check from the company In the mail to setup my home office, and it’s signed by someone I’ve never met before or heard of…?
What…..

Happy to refer you if you are interested in leaving. Don’t let it get you down - careers are long and you won’t even be thinking about this in a year.
Thank you for your kindness

The hardest part about this is the effect it has on your self esteem. I got kicked off my past project for what my manager claims it was underperforming but I don't think she liked me from the start, anyways fast forward am on anew project but over work myself and at times am afraid of asking questions so people don't think am dumb. Trust me, this too shall pass.
Agree. My old manager verbally told me I was on thin ice and I should look for a new job or buckle down and work hard before next year review. It shook my self esteem greatly as I have been solid to above average performer in that group for many years.
Luckily he left the group and I had talk with his manager who gave no indication of me under performing. I feel better now but still remember that feeling

Sorry to hear that Op. unfortunately that’s basically what it means. I’ve heard it’s incredibly hard to come back from a PIP. Good news is that firms are still hiring
Was there a documented PIP? Did you sign it?
Yes, look for a job ASAP.
No, I know. They don't have to sign it either.
There wasn't a formal PIP put into place, that's why i was asking.
If it's extremely hard to come back from a pip then you're at the wrong firm. Decent managers and decent employers see a PIP as a way of cementing an investment in an individual. Termination is a failure for the manager as well as the employee.
But if that's how it works at your place, don't wait. Get out.
It could be them or it could be you. Only you will know which it is.
I worked at one company for 10 years and was constantly told that I am not a team player, bright but not refined, and not educated enough for any promotions (I was passed over for at least 6 in that time). But I knew in my soul it was them and not me.
Fast forward: I took a new role 4 years ago. Have been promoted 3 times, lead multiple teams made up of ~200 people, 5x’d my salary, and exiting for a senior role at another company who poached me.
Decide if it’s them or you and take action accordingly.
I had to give that message a few times. WhR I can suggest is to take an honest review of where you are at and if you really like your group and can turn it around, then make sure your getting the attention and support. Else, regroup and correct those deficiencies and look for a new job. If you don’t course correct then you’ll be in the same spot again.
Hang in there and good luck.
In my experience of giving pips, it’s about 50/50. The employees who get them and don’t like their jobs, aren’t engaged, are the ones that don’t make it and are given the opportunity to find a better job elsewhere.
Some employees like their job they just are focusing on the wrong things. Or they lack tech skills. This can be reconciled with the micromanagement that comes with a pip (in my company at least).

I was placed on one because someone above didn’t like me creating scenarios for me to fail.
I just started working at Factset and they’re always hiring. If you want I can refer you
Just start interviewing elsewhere and it won’t matter. You can probably get a pay bump too
If it was an email and not 1:1 feedback, then they’re just making preparations to lay you off as opposed to actually being interested in helping you come back from this
Lol. No. Otherwise they would have just fired you now
Did the email state when you’ll be reassessed or what the deadline is for improvement? If you have a coach, then I would discuss a game plan with them. I would ask for continuous feedback so that you’re in the loop on your performance and can apply that feedback in the moment. Wishing you the best OP!
I've had that conversation with employees before. When I do, I genuinely want them to improve so we can move past it. Sometimes they do, other times they don't and we advance towards a PIP. Once there's a PIP involved, I've basically made up my mind that they're basically unsalvageable.
I usually give people about 3-4 months between the first conversation about low performance and issuing a PIP. There's lots of warnings and legitimate attempts to remediate the problem.
This is just not the case at all firms then. I’ve seen people come back from a PIP.

Didn’t you already know that?
Do you agree with this feedback?

no ive only been there 6 months and have barely gotten any feedback. on the first engagement I received glowing reviews. They have not provided any training. Their feedback was to not ask as many questions which in my opinion is not a fireable offense. I told them I am going to grad school part time for psychology and right after this happened. I do not think it is a coincidence.

You fired.
