(continued) and I’m thinking about going for it. It’s been a concern of mine seeing linear TV spend rapidly decline and it’s only going to continue to decrease.
I love my role on the investment team but I’m having a hard time seeing a future there if I continue on that path. What are the main things I should consider before making the decision to switch?
I would absolutely jump at the opportunity to transition to the strategy side of things. The investment side can be rewarding but it is a much more narrow path and your instincts to not hitch your career wagon to linear TV are good ones.
Best of luck to you in whatever you choose.
You are so new in your career, that I would say absolutely jump and learn a new path. Early on, especially in the agency world, there is a real risk of siloing yourself into one type of role. The wider range you have, the wider types of roles you can be moved or promoted into if something does go wrong on your current account.
My biggest advice is to maintain the good relationships with your current team, if you choose to switch. You’re not leaving because of them, and by maintaining the quality relationships, you’ll still be able to view them later as friends and network connections if ever needed.
