3 partners/principals in my old group at S& left to go to OW in the last year or so - it should say something about the culture..anecdotal, but still.

Partners usually create the culture though.
Unless your friend is thinking of staying till partner, growth shouldn't be a big deal.
What level is your friend? I'd say if doing strategy is really important S& probably has a higher proportion of true strategy work.
As for the other aspects, I think OW has faster promos if you are a high performer.
The lack of up or out also makes for very good culture overall and less of the cut throat culture issues that's been circulated around online forums about S&
Was at Booz and loved the culture, S& culture still good but maybe a bit more variable / dependent on team. Colleagues that have switched to OW pretty universally say they love the culture and it feels more like Booz used to be

Deal group would also be a generalist in the sense of industry. I think it’s a very good group to be in. That case, I think the 2 options are similar, but I believe we pay higher (based on MBA hire)

Wouldn't put that much weight in growth. Your friend isn't going to be thrilled if it's growth from projects they don't like.
Fair point. On the other hand, I guess it's important as it might still affect your ability to progress if you want to stay in consulting for more than just 2-3 years
