Hi, everyone. I searched and didn’t see a relevant post. Is it best practice to have your video on during an entire 5-hour CLE on Zoom? Very much hoping not- if not, is there like a % that I should have it on?

Dude, nooooo. I won't even turn mine on for a ten minute call lol.

Nope.

Thank you! Haven’t done a live CLE credit yet

Unless you’re specifically told to turn it on, don’t worry about it. If they do ask you to turn it on, honestly rethink how much you need that CLE credit

What is your personal policy on how fast you will respond to client emails?

How about emails for new prospective clients/new business?

I personally am really hard on myself over fast communications by email and Slack. I haven’t gotten in trouble for anything but keep feeling this immense pressure I put on myself to be always on or respond within a few hours.

I'm starting to look around for something impactful and could use some help. Amazon's remote roles are pretty limited. I have a heavy background with cloud, AI/ML and data. Looking to be involved with using my skills to move the needle on something interesting and engaging but not wanting to work grueling hours. Higher pay has usually driven my career moves.

Netflix, Stripe and Slack seem appealing. But honestly, mainly because of the pay and prestige.

I am starting my first civil trial in the beginning of December. It will be by Zoom. I've never done a zoom trial and I've only co-chaired a couple jury trials when I was interning at the prosecutors office years ago. I am getting nervous and I'm wondering if there is a checklist or things to know before starting a jury trial. When should I make my artificial deadlines? Am I late in this process with it being a month out? Any tips for civil trial or zoom trial? Thanks for any input!

I'm waiting on a verdict for a civil jury trial (first one) and I want to go snowboarding tomorrow. They deliberated from 9-5 today with no verdict. Is it super frowned upon if I zoom in (it was a zoom trial) in a car or on the mountain or a lodge or something? Probably a dumb question but idk if receiving verdicts is a much more relaxed etiquette.

Anyone dealt with an assistant who fakes helplessness? I share this person with a partner, and I think she’s very helpful for him (so he loves her) but with me she acts like an idiot. I suspect it’s passive aggressive work-avoidance. She constantly asks me questions that she could quickly find on her own (whats the clients email? She’s been copied for months) and screws things up pretending that I was “unclear” or outright says “sorry I didn’t read the whole email.” It’s driving me crazy.

Helpful if you specify defense/plaintiff side, base salary, benefits, bonus, billable requirements, and would also be interested to know gender/ethnicity (for pay-gap purposes) if comfortable sharing.
