Double check your employee handbook/policies for any time contingencies for benefits. I worked at a place where you gave up your accrued time off if you failed to submit a full 30 day notice. I don't think that is common but worth checking to be safe.
In this economy you dont give notice until after you receive your FIRST paycheck from the new job…the way these employers rescind offers they dont care about you …play it safe. (Idc to argue with anyone else’s opinion, this is mine) but yes 2 weeks standard. Usually they’ll pay you out and walk you out meaning lock you out your computer before the two weeks and still pay you for it depending on industry and role.
1. I would normally do 2 week notice as a courtesy. This will give your team to find a replacement or you to transfer your workload.
2. Save everything you would like to have to your personal drive, including CPE certificates and summary if you have CPA or whatever. Once you submit your notice, normally the IT will watch everything you do like a hawk.
Not sure if this is the best way - here is what I did. I had a one on one with my manager to let him know my decision. Then send an email to HR with my manager copied.
Good luck!
1) It’s usually 2 weeks to leave on a good note and be eligible for rehire. Please note I have heard some companies might not accept your two weeks and make your notice date your final day.
2) When you are ready to give notice, I would let your direct manager know so they are not blindsided. Afterwards I would email your resignation letter to your manager and HR to make it official.
Be prepared if your company tries to make you a counteroffer to keep you. Big Congrats!!
Good points made above. Two weeks is the best practice and demonstrates respect for your current employer. I suggest you do that if possible. Plus it shows your new employer you respect the needs of your employer. It’s good optics.
Your resignation letter can be very short and to the pt. Simply tender your resignation and state your final day of work. No explanation is needed. Just 2-3 sentences should do it.
Good luck!
Very simple if possible don't burn a bridge.. in other words you never know when your career that you will encounter people that you've worked with in the past. Follow policy . Be polite. It's not a time to vent. Make your exit interview a memorable one. That means that HR well genuinely wish that you stayed.
Your former company may not treat you well just do what you have to do to get your money.
Hi,
Usually, for any at-will employment, either party can leave at any time. However, if you want to give a notice, I suggest 2 wks, that way you leave with a good understanding. Please read your employee handbook and see what their specific criteria is for leaving employment. Then draft a resignation letter. I sent mine via email thanking them for having me for two years, etc. and that I am going for better opportunities that were offered to me. if that helps :)
Congrats on your Senior Role.
