Good morning. I am currently a senior associate in BugLaw, and I have applied to several trial attorney jobs in Chicago offices of federal agencies since the start of the pandemic. According to usajobs.gov, my applications to the DOJ and CFTC were “referred,” and my application to the SEC was received and my GS scale verified. But I haven’t received any updates on these applications in over a month. Does anyone here have any insights on these or on federal hiring generally? Thanks!

Just got a job at Deloitte M&A in Atlanta and am currently looking to buy a house. Would you advise I buy closer to Atlanta or the suburbs? I personally want to be in the suburbs but I hear the traffic situation is quite bad. Current consultants in Atlanta, how much time do you actually spend in the office vs remote vs client site? Would you advise I try and stay closer to the office?

Hi! I do assurance, but the role you’ve described sounds a lot like what my dad does for a living. He is a valuation, damages, loss profit, etc expert and goes and testifies as an expert in large civil cases. Their work is fairly different than auditing, but it just depends if that is similar to the role you’re looking at. Personally, I’ve always thought his job sounds cool and his company has a really cool compensation structure, but he does always tell me to wait before coming there saying “the top people at my firm are external hires, a lot of the time from Big 4, not people who started their careers here. Very few people make partner by just rising the corporate ladder from the very bottom” Exit ops from there? Tbh lots of people stay because the comp model is good, but people leave to do all kinds of stuff.
