I would suggest that you replace the battery in the fob before replacing the key.
And I just spoke to someone to get AAA coverage, and they told me I would have to wait 18 months to get coverage.

Sorry I am a bit confused… does key fob proximity lockout exist if you have an actual physical key to use to turn the ignition switch?
Anyway, to rule out your key fob with a dead battery I’d Google how to open your fob to expose the battery compartment, buy a new battery, and see if it fixes the issue.
Yes if the key fob is dead most new cars key fobs emit a radio wave that the car picks up and allows the car to start even if you have a key or not. That's actually why most cars now they tell you keep the key fob near the car while starting otherwise it goes into security mode which is ashut down mode because the car thinks it being stolen and it will not start at all. Only show the lock icon the dash flashing.
Your car has went into security mode could be the key fob is dead and not sending the signal for the car to start. Or its a totally a nightmare issue of computer not communicating with the car. Cheapest option run to the nearest parts place have them get you a battery in the key fob and try that first.
Thanks yall! I replaced the battery on my key fob and also had to jump start my battery because my car was dead. Thankfully my car was under Toyota service warranty.

Good to hear! Also, just for your peace of mind, find an independent shop or any auto parts chain and have your battery tested. It’s a 2 year old car and if you drive regularly the battery should not have been dead. If they found out the battery is bad, get it replaced. If they found parasitic draws from your battery after you turn your car off, there might be some issues with your electrical, or the dealer may have installed a GPS tracker on your car without your knowledge.
Another thought is that you can buy a portable battery jump starter on Amazon for not much money, and it should fit into your glove box just fine. Keep it topped up every other week, and you never have to worry about dead car batteries again.
