What is considered to be a “good” salary for IA/SOX work for a first year senior associate in public accounting/industry for HCOL? Looking for a new job and have a few interviews but am not sure what is considered “good” salary for these roles.. I think they have low balled me where I am currently working and am out of touch with reality on how much someone should actually make for these roles (worked for 2 years HCOL IA/SOX role in public accounting and make 66k)

70k-75k is good. 75k-85k is really good.

It seems I am also out of touch! Especially after reading a few other comments..

Wow, I’m sorry. But that is embarrassingly low. That’s less than what people out of college make. At PWC, senior in that group is at 111K. DM if you want to chat or for referral.

I really appreciate your insight! I’m close with the associates/seniors on the team so we are very transparent about our salaries and we all are getting paid around the same amount (seniors making more of course).. seemed to be a “norm” to make that amount (as that’s all I knew of).. going to message you for a referral

Yeah I’d says at least 85+. I left for a SOX role in industry after 2 years in public for $100k base in Texas so HCOL should be the same or more

Yeah, I moved cities and wasn’t enjoying my industry role. Decided to hop back to public while I could. I’m in accounting advisory now!

Yeah, I was in a similar boat with a previous company. They were known to pay way less than market as a ploy that if there was a recession (or some other event) that they wouldn’t have to do layoffs.

Making $102k as a first year senior now.

What group are you in?

Do you have advice on how to interview better with Amazon?

My résumé and portfolio are great, and I’ve been asked to interview with Amazon for 4 different teams now. However, it seems like I’m not making it past the first 1:1 interview. 3 out of 4 have resulted in not the right fit for reasons unknown; they don’t provide any feedback either. I have been invited for a new interview today with another team, and I am hoping 4th time is the charm. Any tips on how to do better next time?

Is it misleading to just look at Total Compensation from a $ dollar value/ Total Compensation seems to be much more subjective than base salary in terms of its value. Some factors might be:

RSUs granted on dollar value or by # of shares & stock price trends
Vesting schedule
strike price on ISOs & delta between strike price and real market value

For instance, most of value in Amazon's comp seems to be granted in years 3 & 4, but it's well known that most people last only 2 years max there.

I'm a corporate recruiter with 3 years of experience. Finishing my degree in HRM 5/2022. I'm thinking of getting my SHRM -CP shortly after graduation.

I'm not sure of where to go after that, but I doubt I will stick with recruiting or my current firm.

Has anyone here started off in recruiting and branched out to other HR functions? Do you like your new role? Do you wish you stuck with recruiting?
