Kaiser is a great company, but there is a lot of nepotism and bureaucracy
I agree 100% I would also add that Kaiser has been offshoring ALOT, and not just augmenting staff via consulting agencies. We have Kaiser facilities with Kaiser employees in Costa Rica and India (maybe other locations I’m unaware of). The HR call center is now also offshore. I share this because: The HR customer service for its employees has declined in quality and can be very frustrating; nobody's role is safe from being offshored and money is the number one driver. This may sound like an obvious thing to say, but Kaiser was not always like this.
I do still recommend working for Kaiser, however - just know that Kaiser has become like other companies, prioritizing the bottom line above all else. Many employees are deeply disappointed in this shift as it feels like a betrayal of the “Thrive” and “Supporting the communities we serve” marketing that was once truly ingrained in every facet of Kaiser. You’re not serving the community (200k+ Kaiser employees) if you are laying them off in droves and sending their jobs offshore.
I once interviewed a PM that was working for CVS and they were very unhappy there. But I would take it with a grain of salt. For others I wouldn’t know. Hope you get another opportunity!
Thanks for that insight!
have you checked glassdoor? what's the consensus been like?
Although they talk a lot about Product Mgmt they don’t really understand what that means or how to structure it. not to mention they are attempting a bottom up approach of rolling out change meaning the lowest level is left with the challenge of changing the top. And the “top” of the heap do not care about their employees No matter what they say. The pay and benefits are great and you won’t work too hard. Just settle in with not getting anything done faster than a slow snail and getting to hear about it all the time. Plus the buddy system reigns supreme regardless of skillset or attitude. Good if you’re favored and protected, frustrating in dealing with these personalities.
This is an old post I had posted 4 years ago when I was considering offers. I did end up accepting Kaiser’s offer and I am glad I did. I have since been promoted and have had tons of great projects to work on. I do agree that there have been some recent reorgs that have me questioning my future here. Things are getting more political than when I first started. I see good candidates leaving because they are under appreciated. The louder voices win and those who are friends with important people tend to stay safe. Moreover I hear that an RTO mandate is on the horizon. That takes away the massive appeal I had with Kaiser. But then again I have one more year to get vested into my retirement pension. Hope I can linger on atleast until then.
