Thought this was interesting. Across 160 teams of researchers, just about all failed to make good life outcome predictions on things like GPA, evictions, layoffs, and others. Data followed 4.5k families across 15 years, with 13k features (varied over time). Haven't looked at it directly yet, but will be turning the docs and data inside out... In the meantime, authors claim this as showing the limits of ML. Oh, and it's published in PNAS, so you know there's some big publication energy there.

Wait til after the surgery
It depends on where you are applying. If it’s in a government or education facility you may want to apply now because their processing time from the posting of a job to filling the position can take quite some time. Sometimes months. If it’s a restaurant or some other private position you should wait because they fill open positions much quicker
Do it now it takes time to find a job these days
Wait. I had foot surgert and thought I would be off only 3 weeks and ended up being off 3 months.
Wow!! I asked my surgeon to tell me straight up how long i would be off my feet and he did say 10-12 weeks. 🙄
The expected turn around is key here. If they interview and want you to work before you are ready to go back to work don't apply until that seems reasonably far enough out you can be on your feet a full shift several days I week. I have had foot surgery, aim for no less than 8 weeks from the date of the surgery. Probably 4 weeks after surgery you can start applying.
