Hi! I got an offer from DLA for a Legal Administrative Assistant (LAA) role and was wondering what the experience is like. How’s the work environment, flexibility, and remote policy? Are the assignments more admin-focused or similar to Paralegal work at smaller firms? Also, is overtime common?

I’m currently a Paralegal at a small firm, so any insights about the LAA role at DLA would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Thank you so much for your response. Is it a good place to work? They did say that they would continue to send me Paralegal work (like filings) but the reviews/comments I'm seeing are very negative. Do you happen to know if it's a good place to work, or if it's toxic? Also, what about flexibility? Thanks again for your answer 🙏

I think more than anything you'll just be doing a LOT more admin work and probably less of your typical paralegal work. If you're looking to grow as a paralegal, it's worth asking them what percentage of your work will be purely administrative so you can decide if it fits with your career trajectory.

Has anyone else had a mentor (assigned to them by the Company) who seemed to have it out for you? I mean downright sabotage to make you look bad left and right. I didn’t realize it at first. She was fake friendly, but she was discrete too. Some of the executives thought she was amazing, but I had to clean up her work all the time. She wasn’t above me either on the chain of command. Later I found out she had tried for the exec assistant role and they didn’t choose her, they wanted me instead.

I ended cutting my hand on an exacto knife and there was no first aid! Is this normal?
