Some of these softwares just seem to be overkill for what I should need
If you're looking for software to help manage your fulfillment center, here are a few options to consider: Shipstation (helps manage shipping for ecommerce businesses), QuickBooks (to manage your finances), and Shopify (you can create an online store and manage your orders and inventory).
Appreciate this! I should clarify that I am looking to be a third party fulfillment center. So, manage other peoples shipment/inventory. I say this because I’m curious if either of those softwares you’ve mentioned: Shopify/Shipstation have some sort of integration/API to connect with other e-commerce platforms that a client possibly sells on
If you’re looking to be in the 3PL fulfillment space, you’ll need a WMS! The brands you partner with will already have a Shopify/online POS system.
ERPs can be great tools, but if you’re just starting out you’re likely not going to need to use most of the tools ERPs offer, it’s not worth the cost.
A WMS will connect with POS platforms, send/receive order and inventory data, generate shipping labels, and most have some ability to integrate with your financial system to transmit invoicing data.
Shop WMS’s based on your expected business needs...
For example, if you’re anticipating pursuing fulfillment partnerships in more of the apparel industry, find a WMS that functions well with high numbers of SKUs. One shirt in 5 colors and 8 different sizes to choose from means 40 unique SKUs for you to manage.
Alternatively, if you’re more in the food/beverage space, you need a system with strong lot tracking capabilities. Can it effectively support you/partners in the event of a recall? Etc
