Hi watch experts, hoping to get your help and guidance here. Looking at getting my fiancé a watch for his 30th bday. Budget around $1500. No idea where to start or what good value is, but looking for something really classic with a leather strap. Any pointers on brands? TIA!

Any pointers? Oris Big Crown Pointer Date

funnylike

Not normally something I’d recommend, but the Oris Artelier date has a classic style to it and comes in a few different dials. It’s 1,650 but you can likely get a discount it.

Never really thought much of Oris, but this one looks pretty neat.
Aside from this Oris, I think a Tissot Vissodate, Tissot PRX (automatic not the quartz), Hamilton Khaki Field, Tissot Gentlemen, and Hamilton Jazzmaster (please not any open heart) are the best bets in that order. If you live in Chicago check out a store called New York Jewelers (ironic name) and you can probably see all of these in person.

Nomos 33 Orion seems to hit those marks.

Seiko presage line has some nice watches as well.

like

Hamilton Jazzmaster or Longines Presence comes to mind for dress watches under >1500.

Both brands will have watches that meet your price point, but you'll need to filter and search through all their configurations. For the classic dress watch look, look for something with minimal complications, with no or minimal arabic numeral markers.

Check out Christopher Ward

It’s hard to really make good suggestions without know his preferences / style / current collection (if any).
If he’s an average sized dude who isn’t overly dressy and doesn’t already have a diver or a pilots watch, the Christopher Ward C60 Trident pro (~$1,000) or the Oris Big Crown Pointer Date (~$1,500) are pretty safe bets.
I personally love Oris and Microbrands and think that they have some great values in the lower price ranges.
Oris Aquis is also a great diver you can probably get around that price point. Oris should always sell at a healthy discount, ~20% off MSRP.

Or if they love F1 - especially this season!

Tissot has a wide range of good options below that price

I love my Hamilton Viewmaster

It’s looking like my job is gonna start asking us to return to the office. We have an open office plan and before we wfh FT I would save all my work for my telework days bc I can’t get shit done in the office. I’m having major anxiety about them making this decision. I know I’m not alone that people don’t want to return to the office. My ADHD and the open office just makes working from the office a nightmare and I’m feeling really nervous and kind of resentful.

Having a son (first) next year and looking for a birth year watch to hand down. Obvious thought would be a sub but open to other ideas - ideally want something that is classic and will keep its value. Would wear myself. Would rather have my name (or his) on the registration if possible. Any tips/ideas? Is it impossible to get a new sub in a year’s time?

New watch day! Seiko speedtimer “golden panda” but my partner has called it the peanut butter dial lol. I’ve owed the black version before but much prefer this one, a more interesting colour and more contrast between the dial and sub dials. My new gym and outdoor watch!
