Hoping to max out my 401k this year but i think the market could decline in the first half of the year. Anyone else lowering contributions to start the year off then raising it later on? Or are people sticking with time in the market > timing the market?

Wouldn’t you want to buy during the decline in a 401k (assuming you have 5+ years to see the market correct itself)? Sounds like a great time to buy low to me!

I don’t try to time the Market and suggest you don’t either

you're thinking about this wrong. max your 401k to save on taxes and gain the free money from the employer match. if you lower your contributions you're just giving more $ to Uncle Sam.

I feel it’s exhausting to time the market, I prefer to keep investing no matter what and just keep it simple

My strategy is to max the 401(k) ASAP. Then I take the “raise” and put it in the brokerage. Either way, you have the market at that time. No need to overcomplicate by trying to time things.

Or you could just put money in the 401k over the year and in the brokerage account over the year. Either way you should be in the same place

Max the 401K asap and get your tax win. You can still typically choose when the actual investment happens since you can shoose to hold the investment in cash or short term treasuries or whatever. So time the market if you want although statistically its a losing strategy.

What are pros and cons to converting your former employers 401k into new employers 401k vs traditional ira? I feel like traditional ira gives me access to entire stock market and having it 401k restricts access to select funds which also means ill not be tempted to do stupid stuff and lose my retirement money. 50/50 right now. Thoughts, advice, recommendations, experiences?

Is 50% commission a good “salary”? Just received an offer with the following details: - 50% commission. Stepwise increase by 5% for every $5k per month (e.g., 50% of first $5k, 55% of next $5k, etc) (Resets every month) - treated as independent contractor - no health insurance, no 401k - no hour requirement, WFH option, flexible hours - they cover bar dues, CLEs I feel like 50% is very high. Obviously being an independent contractor costs me a bit more, but does this look like a decent deal?

How do you max out your 401k contribution for $19,500 limit without knowing what % contribution will get you there? Fidelity provides these calculators to help you figure out what contribution to set but I’m still not sure what % will get me to perfectly meet the limit without going too over or under in a year. Any tips on how people figured out the right contribution rate? Do people just go with 10-15%? I’ve been having it at 5% and feel it’s too low

I’ve spoke to tens of firms by now and most seems to concentrate heavily on partnership from which I’m actually trying to get away or solely on UNNW and family offices.

What are your 401k allocations? Broadly speaking. I’m in 60% large cap s&p500 US, 20% Intl, 20% growth. Found out recently we can invest in any stock/security within a 401k. Just need to open a traditional brokerage within it and transfer. This whole time I thought we were limited to the ~20 fund options. Accenture people at least.
