In the US for about 5 years. Looking to cash out and move to Europe then. 401k matched. What next steps would you take to manage the rest of your cash?

Are you planning to take it all with you or keep in the US? Made a temporary move to EU so may be able to give my perspective.

I see you surrendered your career.

Ok I’ll see myself out

Careful. If you pull out of your 401k before you’re 59.5 year old you generally face an early withdrawal penalty if 10% on top of whatever other tax is due depending on whether it’s Roth or traditional.

Even if you move to France, you will still need to retire, right? So saving for retirement whether in the US, or Nigeria is irrelevant if you can access your money when you need it. For me, I keep maxing the 401k to get the tax benefits from Uncle Sam, and will just watch it grow when I decide to move back home.

Generally curious how many companies offer phone reimbursement? My last gig did not but the current one does. Legally it seems, all employers are required to do so if we use our phone in literally any capacity (video call, slack, teams, emails etc). How prevalent is the issue of not reimbursing phone dues?

I’ve had several great interviews with a few diff companies. Or rather, I thought they went well but then I get the dreaded “thanks but we made the difficult decision to move forward with other candidates”. I’ve asked for feedback but so far have gotten none.

I know it’s competitive out there, but I also don’t know how I can either position myself better, seek positions that are more aligned with my expertise/experience, or work on improving certain areas.

Any advice on how to proceed?

Not sure if this is the right bowl but hoping to get some insight. I have a lot of student debt, and am considering refinancing with First Republic bank to get a (marginally) lower interest rate. However, their version of refinancing student loans has changed in the last couple years so now they offer you a personal line of credit. Is it a bad idea to refinance with a line of credit vs a regular student loan refinancing?

My fiancé and I (ages 30 and 31) are about to buy a house. We would put down 10% for a 835k purchase price. Our combined income is $265k. We both have around 7-10k left in emergency funds (each) and combined about 200k for retirement. Our mortgage is $4,500 a month and we split a car payment for $800. Is this an okay financial decision or should we have bought a cheaper house/saved more?

Advice appreciated: I want to sublease my apartment so that I can rent elsewhere and pay less. I had to move in a short amount of time and it was during the period where there was a high demand for housing, & leases everywhere were expensive so I signed what I thought was fairly cheap in comparison to what was out there. However I found something this month that will cut costs by 30%. How do I go about finding someone to sublease my place?

Best place to get pre-qualified for a mortgage?

I have some collections on my credit report. One from an electric company for $800 (imo they violated terms of contract and sent me to collections in spite of their fuck up), and an apartment for $80~ that charged me a cleaning fee when my apartment was spotless.

Despite these two collections have a 712-720 credit score.

So mortgage lenders care at all about the collections or is it mostly the credit score that matters?
