This is an accurate take. It’s a deliberate move to avoid vacation payouts at termination, and average PTO utilization tends to be lower with an unlimited policy vs legacy models (however rich it was).
Ultimately try to think through business implications and why they’re offering the benefit. Most decisions are driven by some corporate goal. E.g. budgeting app to better employees financial wellness due to complaints, increasing deductibles/out of pockets to decrease employer healthcare liability, unlimited pto to avoid vacation payouts in high turnover companies, etc.

Exactly. This expands on the topic
I’ve actually had great success with unlimited PTO. Taking 1 month+ each year. The trick to figuring out if a place that offers it is legit is just asking people there how many days they took off last year
How did they punish?
Unlimited PTO is always a scam. It’s just a marketing tactic to make the company seem nice.

Agreed.

I had this too! I had a few sly comments made about the time I took my PTO - but it’s my PTO to take when I want!

100% agree, I hate feeling guilty about taking time off- especially if I’ve acquired it from working extra hours etc
