How are you guys optimizing your resumes to stop the instant rejections? I submitted an application today and got a rejection email exactly 90 seconds later. I didn't even have time to close the browser tab before the Unfortunately... message hit my inbox. It’s clear that some keyword-matching bot decided my life’s work didn't fit its specific parameters and killed my chances instantly.

I optimized my resume by not sending it out anymore, and like magic no more rejections!

A lot of larger companies have AI-ish filters now. Make sure you align your resume to the job posting. Use the same words (if they’re true).

like

There's no way TO stop it. Companies are using AI to filter out resumes, which means that the filtering is completely arbitrary. The AI is out there rejecting perfectly qualified candidates, and if it was ever called out on any specific example it would just say "You're absolutely right! I shouldn't have done that" with zero change to behaviour going forward. This is just one more birth defect resulting from the digital thalidomide that AI companies are pumping into every aspect of our lives.

Is there any chance that you’re checking know on some of the criteria, such as do you live in the state of XYZ, are you legally entitled to work in this country, things like that? I find those are the biggest things that trigger an instant rejection. Or if there’s a question that says do you have X amount of years in whatever field. If you say no because you don’t and they require that many years you’ll get filtered out.

like

There’s also a strong chance that the role had already been filled internally or through referral. This happens more often than companies would like to admit sadly. You wouldn’t want to work for a company like that anyways, if it’s how they treat people.

Help- my SIL showed me two dresses she rented for my shower, and I think they are super bridal/not very appropriate to wear as a guest or bridesmaid. I have asked others and they agree. I feel like my own outfit, a simple jumpsuit, pales in comparison to how over the top these dresses are. What can I say or do? I feel really down but also don’t want to start WW3 by saying something to her. I feel like I now need to rush to buy a new outfit.

I moved to Philly from Chicago burbs for my current job in 2017. Love working for this company. They believe in employee growth and put in their time effort and money behind their current employees. 2020 has been though, I still have my job but have never missed my family this much. Since we’ve been working from home, I’ve stayed with family for couple of months. Now I don’t feel like living away from them. Just confused between family and career. Any advice?

Hey folks. Question for the majority of us still under the big 3 holding co’s...are raises a thing anymore? I’ve been at my (smaller) agency almost 5yrs and got one raise (a nice $12k bump) during that time—is that sufficient? Is one increase in that span normal? I also recognize being somewhere 5 years is rare these days. The honeymoon period at any agency seems to be 2.5—3yrs before bolting. Not complaining, just asking. Have y’all been getting raises/bumps in any kind of regular cycle? Thx.

Is your firm treating 12/26 and 12/27 as firm holiday since the 24th and the 25th are during the weekend this year? Of course client demands would dictate whether people will be working, but curious what the official policy is. For what it’s worth, my firm treated the day after thanksgiving as holiday and I didn’t have to work for the whole day.

I received an offer for 80k to work as a desktop engineer for TCS at one of their client’s locations. However, I have seen poor reviews for working at TCS and I’d like to get some feedback from anyone currently or had previously worked for that company. What is the environment like and has anyone been in a situation where the contract with TCS and the client ended and had trouble with TCS finding them a new role at the same pay?
