Leaving citi for GS. Question, what are some perks working for Goldman Sachs? I know the hours are long. But I also know they’re paying me a lot more and they’re a more premier firm than Citi. What are some actual great things of working for GS? Just trying to see all of the positives rather than all the negatives people love to always share.
Do what makes you happy. Cross that bridge when it comes. No one is going to blame you. We’re in a particular time where everyone will understand.
Good for you, 175k saved. Takes discipline.
Honestly not in the same part of the finance world but you should be fine if you can build the narrative correctly when you get back and interview.
Please, please do it. Live your life. I promise you it is absolutely worth it. And if I can do it more than once & come to that conclusion WITHOUT 175k banked (wtf? 😂) you can definitely come to the same conclusion! ☺️🥳
I say do it. Totally reasonable in today’s day and age. I think most companies are understanding of things like this and if they aren’t, it’s probably not a company that aligns with your needs
As long as you can weave a nice story when you get back into the field in interviews then you’re fine. Hit the beach for a few months
Take time off allow yourself to relax. Don’t fall into complacency though it’s really easy especially after a constant state of exhaustion. Try to keep healthy habits that keep you productive while feeling better about yourself like working out or hobbies
Have you considered an MBA? Would be two years off of work and just networking and traveling. And would be useful to pivot
In my experience, I don’t think an MBA did anything for me. I wish on hindsight that I went for a certification like the CAIA or CFA
I would support this. You can always go back.
It’s 175K. You’re more than fine. I did it with 30K saved.
Worth it. You’ve got some cash saved up. Do it now while you can.
You will always regret not going but if it is not what you thought you can always change it up once on the trip. Go for it ~ will be amazing memories and may impact the trajectory of your career too.
I agree with others here, take the time off. I have a 3 month gap in my resume between my previous job and current job. They didn't ask about it in my interview. I was asked about it during the background check, but I said I travelled and no one probed further.
If you are worried about having a gap, do a bit of volunteering while you travel.
Think it also depends on which industry you’d like to go next
I did. I quit when I hit 100k because I hated my job lol. I travelled a bit & went to grad school (full scholarship). I’m now in a new field making almost triple what I made when I quit in 2019.
Yeah go travel
We all got burned out sometimes, take a leave for health reason or family reason sounds totally reasonable to me
Do it
