It’s how you frame it. One way: addition of global and cultural acumen to your skills.
IRL: Experiencing another culture and country totally trumps US career trajectory.
Yup!!! Lived in Mexico for two years and it was an amazing experience
Real talk as someone who left the US for a promotion abroad. It’s been 10 years and I’m desperate to get back. Been trying for years with no luck. Once you step foot outside the US, they don’t value your experience any longer. You have to accept it’s a one directional move.
It’s concerning you can’t tell the difference between a secondment and a transfer, but OK.
Non-US experience is generally discounted.
Discounted doesn’t mean worthless.
You’ll love it just do it!
It depends, working in ME for 1-2 years? Wont impact your career might even help you since you get global experience but if you’re thinking 4+ years then it’ll set you back
It will help not hurt.
If you’re doing MBB or BB/Boutique IB it is valued the exact same especially in O&G

This is too general of a question for anyone to answer. Different lenses:
-If you only look through the lens of the current career path at current firm, naturally if you leave, your promos will be on hold or delayed.
-If you go in a different market and gain relevant experience that can enrich your resume, it may even help you qualify for a higher level when you return. It depends on what opportunity you land.
*** Even if you return back to same level, an opportunity abroad can be worth it for the experience alone. Life is more than just climbing the career ladder. You have to enjoy the journey too. Growth isn’t linear.
I don’t see why it would.
