Why do law firms still request transcripts even if you have been working for over 5 years? I am just curious because they seem to be the only industry that still does it. I get it when someone is fresh out of school, but when someone has been in the workforce for 5-10 years, how are grades relevant?

Due diligence. It's just standard procedures. Even big4 and public accounting requests it...they make you sign an agreement giving permission though sometimes they don't follow through.

They don't ask because they care about your grades, it's more about they want to make sure everything you told them is true.

I was never asked for transcripts by big4. Including straight out of LLM. That was close to 10 years ago though.

Edit: meant to include that my industry job that I got 8 years out did ask as a part of the background check.

Have you watched suits?

Lmao I am dead.

Because law firms are even more archaic and old fashioned than Big 4.

I agree.

To internally shame you for that one C+ first semester 1L thanks to 1L grading curve 😂😂

Lol it definitely seems that way 🤣🤣🧐

I went through two rounds of interviews for
a job that the posting stated $36.66 per
hour (FP&A Analyst)…the company
recruiter had told me in the initial call the
pay could be 32-36 because of the other
benefits. If I do get a job offer what range
should I try for? I was really hoping to get
around the 36-40 but now I feel like they
may try to offer lower than what was
posted. Also there was no range but the
average for this position is upper 70s-90k.
Thanks for any help!

Recently left the Big4 without a job lined up. I’m hearing all my friends talking about busy season woes and I’m so grateful to not be in that position. I keep thinking of the long hours and it’s making me not want to job hunt. I’ve been looking at industry related tax roles, and generally like accounting but am open to exploration. Is there any such role that gives good comp, great work/life balance (I don’t even wanna be near 60 hours), and overall interesting role/company?

Do you feel like turnover has now diminished after this busy season or will it kick up again as we approach the next one?

At this point, I'm wondering if most firms have hired enough people or they are still on the lookout due to shortage.

Do you all see a compelling future in your tax career? I’ll go first, I don’t see a compelling future working for a large PA firm in the long run because you have to work more as you move up. However, I do see a compelling future by using my knowledge and skills to open my own firm/business and work less hours as long as I make enough money which is $75k, or if I do work long hours, it’s because I want to.
